Negligence in Submissions to Court

Please forgive me, readers, as I know this is not a North-Carolina-specific posting, but I heard this story on National Public Radio yesterday and just had to share!

A judge in New York’s Superior Court has thrown out a tort action because of the petitioning attorney’s poor stapling skills.  Apparently, a rogue staple pierced the skin of a clerk twice and drew blood both times.  So, dear paralegals, please make sure the ends of your staples are tucked into the bound stack of pages.  Otherwise, the court may just toss the whole thing out the window for “dangerously negligent” stapling!
