The Florida Registered Paralegal Standing Committee will hold a public forum September 10 from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. at the Tampa Airport Marriott Hotel

The forum will focus on the following two topics:

• Rule 20-2.1(d) defines Approved Paralegal Program as a program approved by the American Bar Association or a program that is in substantial compliance with the ABA guidelines and accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency approved by the United States Department of Education. Many schools are accredited but not ABA approved or in substantial compliance. Should the rule be amended to require only graduation from a school accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency approved by the United States Department of Education?

• Rule 20-3.1(c), the grandfathering provision, is set to sunset on March 1, 2011. Should the rule sunset or should grandfathering be a permanent part of the rule?

If time permits, the committee will consider other comments.

Speakers will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited to 10 minutes each. Written submissions will also be accepted.
