Mississippi Paralegal Association (MPA)
Description: Mississippi Paralegal Association (MPA) was found in 1980 by paralegals/legal assistants in Mississippi who wished to encourage a high order of ethical and professional attainment. The main purpose of MPA is to promote the profession of the legal assistant or paralegal. MPA supports, encourages and maintains high standards for the service, conduct and ethics of paralegal/legal assistants. MPA members have the opportunity to further their education through MPA sponsored meetings and seminars. Members are also able to maintain a close tie with county, state and national bar associations as well as with other members of the legal community. MPA is kept abreast of national affairs and news through their affiliation with the National Association of Legal Assistants, Inc. support paralegal/legal assistants by promoting professional development, education, and the Certified Legal Assistants (CLA) and Certified Legal Assistant Specialist (CLAS) examinations.

The Mississippi Bar Association Paralegal/Legal Assistant Division
Description: The Paralegal/Legal Assistant Division of the Mississippi Bar Association is a Committee which explore programs and services to promote professionalism and competence among paralegals in Mississippi; serve as a liaison between the Bar and paralegals/paralegal organizations in Mississippi and serve as a resource to the Board of Commissioners as to paralegal issues.

Paralegal Schools and CLE
Mississippi College
Description: An ABA-approved program, with small class sizes. Night classes are available for working students. The Mississippi College campus is located near the state capital of Jackson, and features a generous transfer policy. Students can use the Mississippi College School of Law library (an ABA-approved law school) and campus library. Students are also offered college and program placement services, a full-time director and a mock trial team.

Degrees Offered & Conditions: Bachelor of Science, 30 hour Post-Baccalaureate Certificate. Minimum length of time to complete program: 2 yrs

Mississippi University for Women
Description: Mississippi University for Women was the first public institution chartered as a women’s college in the United States. It is now coeducational. The Paralegal Studies program was established in 1970 and approved by the ABA in 1987. The program offers a four-year Baccalaureate Degree.

Degrees Offered & Conditions: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science.
Minimum length of time to complete program: 124 classroom hours, approx. 3.5-4 yrs.

University of Southern Mississippi
Description: The Paralegal program at the University of Southern Mississippi is an ABA-approved program with two full-time faculty members, one of whom is a CLA and the other an attorney. Additional instruction is provided by practicing CLAs. Internships are encouraged. The program is housed in the Political Science Department, but has its own director, with about 80 majors.

Minimum length of time to complete program: 4 yrs for 128 semester hour program.
